Attic Remodeling

Your own storage unit

Converting an attic into usable storage is a wonderful use of space, this is key to taking advantage of your attic. Most people are growing out of their home’s storage space; approximately $38 billion dollars a year is spent on independently owned storage facility units!

One of the solutions to the storage problem is to invest your hard-earned money in your attic instead, and turn it into your very own storage unit. This will ultimately save you money and the headache of traveling to go get those holiday decorations, tax returns, seasonal clothes, etc. Just outfit your attic to become part of your home. We have converted many attics into usable space for our clients, while giving them the best use of insulation and removing the unwanted house guests, such as bugs, and rodents!

More space for you

Take a look at the picture at the top right, this is a great example of an Attic Remodel converted into storage. BEST Techs Contracting moved the insulation to the roof rafters, sanitized the entire attic, replaced electrical and plumbing lines that where done incorrectly and installed newly designed duct work that is more efficient. When the mechanical pieces were replaced properly, we were then able to install plywood over the entire accessible attic surface area.  Think about all the empty space to store your holiday decorations now! The kids might even use the attic as a fort. Check out the video that Jason made regarding this High-Performance Attic Remodel makeover.

Of course, you will need an access point from below to retrieve all the special and important decorations, a pull-down ladder! Look at the picture (middle right) with Jason coming up the attic ladder. If it is sturdy enough to hold him, it should be strong enough to hold you!

BEST Techs Contracting install the attic ladder by cutting a big enough opening in an area that is easily accessible. Some of the previous access points (sometimes located in a closet) are hard to get to and ridiculously small. We will install the ladder in an area that is convenient, with enough room to have a large ladder for ease of use, like the hallway shown here on the right. The attic ladder shown in the picture is typical of the install at most client’s homes. They are framed and painted to match the location where it is installed, and most homeowners say they blend right into the ceiling.

Crucial steps of the attic remodel

The last photo is in the hallway looking up to the attic and ceiling. So, if you are thinking of an attic remodel, you need to consider and implement all the key factors around the space you are working on to keep you and your family healthy, safe, and comfortable.

The main items to remember are: Installing the insulation at the roof rafters, replacing all damaged electrical and plumbing lines, new designed ductwork. These are the crucial steps of the attic remodel.

What is in your Attic?

Most large Remodel projects that involve major changes to the structure of your home require a permit. Because each municipality has different rules, it is important to check your city’s website or call for clarification. Regardless of who does the work, it is the homeowner's responsibility to ensure that the project holds the proper permits. BEST Techs Contracting is fully licensed and Insured and will also pull the necessary permits prior to the start of any construction project that requires the permit process.
